PHOENIX – After his 71-point performance last Monday in Cleveland against the Bulls, an accolade has followed for Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell. For the second time in a month Mitchell was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

Mitchell played in three games this past week, leading the Cavaliers to a 3-0 record in those games. Including his 71-point game against Chicago, Mitchell averaged 37.7 points per game to go along with 7.3 assists and 5.3 rebounds in two wins over Phoenix and a win over Chicago.

The 71-point performance against the Chicago Bulls not only set the franchise record for the Cavs, but Mitchell’s 99 points created between scoring and assists was the second-highest total for a single game in NBA history, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game back in 1962.

On the season, Mitchell is averaging a career-high 28.8 points per game with the Cavaliers along with 3.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists while leading the team to a 26-15 record, sitting at fourth place in the East.

Mitchell’s second player of the week honor marks the 66th time that a member of the Cavaliers has taken home the award. It is the fifth time in Mitchell’s career he’s been named a conference player of the week. This also marks the first time since the 2017-18 season that a member of the Cavs has won the award multiple times in the same season.

James, now of the Los Angeles Lakers, took home the Western Conference Player of the Week honors this week.
