Our last mock draft was our first foray ever into projecting trades. This one goes a bit further – our first Browns trade in a mock draft!
Yes, conjuring some logical trades was fun. In fact, the very day Mock 5.0 appeared, the Miami Dolphins made a real trade down with San Francisco, and then followed with a trade up with Philadelphia. We had mocked Atlanta doing the exact same thing.
In Mock 6.0, we have the Falcons moving down in a trade with the Broncos. And we have the Browns moving up four spots in a trade with the Titans.
The object of the Browns’ affection is the same player we mocked to them in 5.0 – South Carolina Jaycee Horn. There is no way Horn would last to No. 26; thus, the trade up.
Mock 6.0 also reflects the official draft order reshaped by last week’s real trades.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars: QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
Great care has been taken by the franchise to create a supportive environment for him, starting with Urban Meyer as coach.
Last time: Lawrence.
2. New York Jets: QB Zach Wilson, Brigham Young
Now the hard part: Finding a team to offer something for Sam Darnold, who’s due a fifth-year option and then second contract a year later.
Last time: Wilson (Panthers).
3. San Francisco 49ers (from Dolphins): QB Justin Fields, Ohio State
Hard to believe they would trade essentially three No. 1s for either of the other QBs still on the board.
Last time: Trey Lance (Broncos).
TRADE: Falcons trade No. 4 to Broncos for No. 9, No. 40 and first-rounder in 2022.
4. Denver Broncos: QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State
Falcons squeeze further No. 1 from Broncos rather than trade with division-rival Panthers.
Last time: Fields (Patriots).
5. Cincinnati Bengals: WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU
Staying pat assures Bengals of one of three on their wish list.
Last time: Chase.
6. Miami Dolphins (from Eagles): WR DeVonta Smith, Alabama
Yo-yo trades from last week – down to 12, then up to six – allow them to still land Tua Tagovailoa’s former teammate, after all.
Last time: Jaylen Waddle (Eagles).
7. Detroit Lions: OT Penei Sewell, Oregon
If they’re building a foundation, they can’t pass up draft’s best offensive tackle.
Last time: Pitts (Falcons).
8. Carolina Panthers: QB Mac Jones, Alabama
Unable to move up, they settle for QB5.
Last time: Sewell (Jets).
9. Atlanta Falcons: TE Kyle Pitts, Florida
Trade-down netted them draft’s best tight end and future No. 1. Brilliant.
Last time: Smith (Dolphins).
10. Dallas Cowboys: CB Patrick Surtain, Alabama
Pretty much considered CB1 now.
Last time: Caleb Farley.
11.New York Giants: DE Jaelan Phillips, Miami
Last time: Kwity Paye.
12.Philadelphia Eagles (from Dolphins): WR Jaylen Waddle, Alabama
