As the April 24 draft approaches, each of the 32 teams still possesses its first-round pick. It’s the first time that has been the case since 1970.

It has been speculated that there will be few trades on draft day, also, because of a lack of top-flight quarterbacks.

That may be true for the top half of the draft. But I think the second wave of quarterbacks after Cam Ward will draw trade action at the bottom third of the first round.

There could be a wild scramble among teams holding picks high in the second round who want to move up to take quarterbacks. This group includes the Browns (No. 33), Giants (No. 34), Raiders (No. 37) and possibly the Jets (No. 42).

In my penultimate mock draft, I did not mock any trades at the bottom of the first round. But I think this could be one of the major storylines of the first round in a draft that could be boring early but dramatic by the end of the night.
